to a friend that was like a brother to me. \u00a0John Shimooka passed away a couple weeks ago and i&#8217;m still in disbelief that he&#8217;s not with us anymore. \u00a0since the coronavirus, you can&#8217;t have a proper funeral. \u00a0so just the closest people to John paddled out to Big Rights to catch a wave for him.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-115252\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_2754.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/>when i got out there, i couldn&#8217;t believe how many people showed up. \u00a0everybody was social distancing which was good, and the vibe was tense. \u00a0from cries, to laughs, you could feel John&#8217;s presence. \u00a0the current was so strong, the water was rough, and one of the canoes flipped over. \u00a0i could see him laughing down on us&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-115253\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_2800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/>most surfers, including me, want their ashes to be scattered in the ocean. \u00a0it kind of feels good to be able to surf where ever you go and feel each and everyones soul. \u00a0all us surfers know that there is only one ocean and we are all connected to it. \u00a0this is our final destination&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-115255\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_2823-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/>good to see all the Big Rights boys out there. \u00a0John loved to surf out there and that&#8217;s where we made most of our greatest memories&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-115250\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/e162c122e0bfe2d9592482e76683273f-663x373.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"663\" height=\"373\" \/>hey John, thank you brother for the amazing times we had. \u00a0from the crazy memories in Japan, to the crazy memories in Hawaii, we did it all. \u00a0you made me laugh, sometimes so hard that i ended up crying. \u00a0you made me smile, you made me happy, and you made me super stoked whenever i was hanging out with you. \u00a0i&#8217;ll keep those memories tucked away in my heart and when ever i go surf Big Rights, i&#8217;m
