{"id":11607,"date":"2011-11-06T06:06:02","date_gmt":"2011-11-05T21:06:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?p=11607"},"modified":"2011-11-06T06:06:02","modified_gmt":"2011-11-05T21:06:02","slug":"060602","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?p=11607","title":{"rendered":"Japan Day 3:  M5 Day 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"photo\"><a href='https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo_1_9.JPG' title='photo_1_9'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo_1_9.JPG\" class=\"attachment-medium\" alt=\"photo_1_9.JPG\" title=\"photo_1_9\" \/><\/a> <a href='https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo_2_9.JPG' title='photo_2_9'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo_2_9.JPG\" class=\"attachment-medium\" alt=\"photo_2_9.JPG\" title=\"photo_2_9\" \/><\/a> <a href='https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo_3_8.JPG' title='photo_3_8'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo_3_8.JPG\" class=\"attachment-medium\" alt=\"photo_3_8.JPG\" title=\"photo_3_8\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>1.  i wanted to thank again everybody from the bottom of my heart for<br \/>\nthe ongoing support for tohoku.  we&#8217;re still getting support from all<br \/>\nover the world and it&#8217;s a great feeling.  when i pulled up to naoka&#8217;s<br \/>\nhouse yesterday, i was surprised on how many boxes of warm clothes,<br \/>\ncandy, okinawa snacks, and even a letter of messages from kids sent from<br \/>\nokinawa.  if it wasn&#8217;t the support from all of you, our missions would<br \/>\nbe impossible.  anyway, we loaded up van 1 of 2, and headed up north.  a<br \/>\nlong 6 hour drive.<br \/>\n2.  driving up this time was much different than the first time.  the<br \/>\nroads are fixed and back to normal now.  when we pull over at the<br \/>\nparking stops for a break, there are lots of tourists.  before, there<br \/>\nwere only a few people which included search and rescue, military, and<br \/>\nvolunteers.  it was a much different feeling back then, nobody was<br \/>\nsmiling.  it was nice to see people going back to their normal lives.<br \/>\n3.  i was monitoring the radiation all the way from chigasaki and<br \/>\ntokyo.  it kept going up and up as we got closer to fukushima.  i took a<br \/>\nnap and then the alarm went off.  levels as much as 0.97 recorded on<br \/>\nthis geiger counter as the alarm sounded for over 30 minutes.<br \/>\nwe had a nice dinner in sendai with kiku-chan last night.  it&#8217;s 5:30 am<br \/>\nnow and we are going with her to onagawa, which was one of the worst hit<br \/>\nplaces in japan.  on our last trip, we drove by and couldn&#8217;t believe the<br \/>\ndamage.  nothing was left, even the solid foundation of buildings were<br \/>\nall but gone.  reality will sink in as 8 of us will visit some same<br \/>\nplaces we did back in early april.  i&#8217;m sure the memories will all come<br \/>\nback.  i&#8217;m just hoping for improvements.  these next 2 days will inform<br \/>\nus, and hopefully the world, on how much japan has come back, and how<br \/>\nmuch things are still the same.  i better get going.  i had a bear named<br \/>\n&#8220;toda-san&#8221;
