at the Ha&#8217;atafu beach resort. \u00a0it was the first Japanese surf trip to Tonga so it was pretty special. \u00a0this was the shack i stayed in on that trip. \u00a0it was a pretty cool experience. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-96029\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirby\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/hataffucooking.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tokura-san-san, Matchi, me, and the 3 little girls who where the daughters of the owner. \u00a0come to find out, 2 of the girls took over running the surf camp. \u00a0pretty cool to see these lovely girls growing up making surfers feel comfortable in Tonga. \u00a0check out my surfboard we used for a cutting board. \u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-96030\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirby\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/aakavatonga.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>cameraman Yoshiro Nakayama and pro surfer Taro Taniuchi enjoying the kawa party. \u00a0that was the first time i ever drank kawa and it tasted like mud. \u00a0but after all those years, i started to love it. \u00a0not necessarily the taste, but the culture.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-96028\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirby\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/aatongaspider.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"490\" \/><\/p>\n<p>i was 27 years old at that time. \u00a0very young, very skinny, very curious, and very wild. \u00a0if i were to meet a kid like that now, i would run away. \u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-96031\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirby\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/tongaride.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>this Tongan ferris wheel was pretty classic. \u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-96026\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirby\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Screen-Shot-2022-01-23-at-11.41.31-PM-800x393.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>anyway, that huge volcanic eruption caused a tsunami that destroyed the entire Ha&#8217;atafu surf camp. \u00a0i was shocked to see these photos. \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-96027\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirby\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Screen-Shot-2022-01-23-at-11.41.03-PM-800x394.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<p>this is where the kitchen was so if you went there before, you would be saddened by this. \u00a0i hope they can rebuild because i&#8217;m sure thousands of surfers from around the world have amazing memories
