i was flipping through a sports channel today and came across something very weird? \u00a0weird because it started off with a beautiful video of a guy snowboarding and then this very familiar name pops up. \u00a0TARO TAMAI! \u00a0omg, Taro-san!!!! \u00a0but wait? \u00a0this is on American TV? \u00a0so of course, i keep watching. \u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

then another familiar name pops up. \u00a0OSAMU OKADA! \u00a0omg, Osamu-san! \u00a0i know these guys! \u00a0i snowboarded with them and even went on an Indonesia boat trip with them before! \u00a0 these are some of the coolest guys on the planet. \u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

then the title of the movie “SNOWSURF-A GENTEM FAMILY STORY.” \u00a0OK, now i knew what was happening. \u00a0it’s a movie about the Japanese surfer boys that moved to Niseko and pioneered surfing the mountains. \u00a0i haven’t seen it before so i wasn’t going to miss this! \u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

then i saw the Dove Wetsuits and seen all the familiar faces. \u00a0i was so happy! \u00a0these boys started surfing in the snow when everybody was trying to skateboard in the snow. \u00a0now, surfing in the snow is a multibillion dollar industry.\"\"<\/p>\n

yeah, Hokkaido has some perfect waves. \u00a0where else in the world can you surf the morning round, then drive up to the mountains and snowboard, then surf another evening round? \u00a0 dream country. \u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

the cool thing is there are English subtitles. \u00a0so now i could understand and connect a lot more with these guys. \u00a0and i agree that these guys know the back country better than anybody. \u00a0i went a few times with them and it’s pretty wild back there. \u00a0rocks, cliffs, trees, holes, and avalanches. \u00a0but they knew everything so i always felt safe! \u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

this is surfing the mountains. \u00a0perfect form, nice carve, and huge spray. \u00a0i love it! \u00a0now i feel like going to Niseko again! \u00a0and if you ever go to Niseko, look up The Powder Company for a guide. \u00a0they are the most experienced in Niseko and know that area better than anyone else. \u00a0you do not want to get lost in the snow. \u00a0i almost died 20 years ago walking home late at night drunk from a bar in Niseko. \u00a0if my friends girlfriend didn’t find me half buried in a pile of powder snow on the side of the road, i would have turned into a popsicle by morning. \u00a0i’m pretty sure people there are still talking about it. \u00a0haha.<\/p>\n

anyway, check out this trailer of Snowsurf. \u00a0and if you can watch it, please listen carefully to the words. \u00a0when they talk about boards, equipment, and connecting to the snow, it’s the exact same concept as surfing. \u00a0hope to surf the mountains with you boys soon!<\/p>\n
