{"id":27385,"date":"2012-12-17T06:10:52","date_gmt":"2012-12-16T21:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?p=27385"},"modified":"2012-12-17T06:10:52","modified_gmt":"2012-12-16T21:10:52","slug":"tohoku-elementary-schools-revisited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?p=27385","title":{"rendered":"Tohoku Elementary Schools Revisited"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>good morning @ 4:30am as i&#8217;m pretty much jet lagged. been here for 2 days and feel like it&#8217;s night in the day and day in the night. what a weird feeling as the rest of japan sleeps. flying back tomorrow so going to make the most of my last day. heading to kobochihama and i hope to see some improvements and some happy faces.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?attachment_id=27390\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27390\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/photo-116.jpg\" alt=\"photo 1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-27390\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nbefore i left hawaii, Lara Yamada from KITV news interviewed me and one of the questions she asked was &#8220;how is japan now?&#8221; well, my answer was &#8220;some places have rebuilt, and some places are still the same.&#8221; this is ishinomaki and there use to be thousands of houses down there, including Izumi-san&#8217;s surf shop. now almost 2 years after, there is still nothing left. our team has been here 7 times and it hurts every time we go up there and see the damage.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?attachment_id=27393\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27393\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/photo-510.jpg\" alt=\"photo 5\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium wp-image-27393\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthen we drive an hour up the coast to kitakami. there use to be many houses down here too. the only thing that was built since 3\/11 is the We Are One Market! see it down on the left? that&#8217;s a symbol of &#8220;HOPE.&#8221;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?attachment_id=27394\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27394\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/photo-117.jpg\" alt=\"photo 1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium wp-image-27394\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nand driving along in the city, you can still see the damage. some people decided to just leave and never come back.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?attachment_id=27388\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27388\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/photo-3-copy1.jpg\" alt=\"photo 3 copy\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium wp-image-27388\" \/><\/a><br \/>\ngoing back to Oogawa Elementary School always hurts. the wave came over the school and 89 students and teachers died here. i&#8217;m not sure what they plan to do with the school but every time we pass here, i get depressed.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?attachment_id=27396\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27396\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/photo-214.jpg\" alt=\"photo 2\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium wp-image-27396\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nsomebody put a christmas tree in the building for the kids. and there are solar lights everywhere for the kids too see at night. i haven&#8217;t felt so much spirits at one place in my life.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?attachment_id=27389\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27389\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/photo-213.jpg\" alt=\"photo 2\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium alignnone size-medium wp-image-27389\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nwe get out of the car, we split up, and we are all thinking the same thing &#8220;why.&#8221;
