good morning. 6:30 am and where is the south swell? everybody’s been talking about the south swell that supposed to be here today. all i see is small waves and a lot of people. i’ll be watching and as soon as i see a set overhead, i’m heading to the beach. until then, i’ll be relaxing my body from a long day yesterday. have a nice monday!

\nyesterday was just like any other diving day. load up the car the night before, drink with friends, come home late, wake up early, and go dive all day….

\nkyle, cathy, toda-san, takami-san, and i went out to the west side for one reason. and that’s to dive deep in the blue water and try to catch a big fish….
\n**we were diving out in about 120′ of clear blue water when the current pulled us out to 200′. i see a “rainbow runner” swimming near a big shark. i go down to try to spear it, i miss, i reload, then i see more and more rainbow runners coming around eating the bait we had. then at the corner of my eye, i see more and more big dark shadows coming up from the deep blue. i had my video camera strapped on me so i turned it on, and filmed the sharks getting nearer and nearer. one 8′ turns and makes a straight line to me. i had my spear gun out to keep the distance but it kept on getting closer and closer. i wanted to see how close it would come to the camera mounted to my mask. the thing came right up about 4′ away before it turned. cool… then more and more came as kyle got picked up by the boat first. next thing you know, i was alone in the deep blue ocean with dead fish bait floating all around me. the sharks started going into a frenzy eating everything i sight. it was me and 5 big sharks all around me taking bites of the fish we cut up. i’m not scared of sharks but 5 sharks in feeding frenzy? just a little nervous? i was in the water for about 5 minutes dodging aggressive sharks coming from every angle. top, side, bottom, and from behind. it felt like hours. i got out of the water in one piece and am lucky to have my hands and legs…. i’d be lying if i told you i wasn’t scared for a little while… and guess what, i was filming the whole thing and my battery was dead… haha…

\n**we were looking for big fish all day. i seen a huge ono as soon as i jumped off the boat but i didn’t have my gun. missed opportunity again!!! i was bummed out but still stayed in the water cutting up bait and waiting, and waiting. finally, i got the chance. a big ono came in, i dove down on it, i put my spear right through his body. my first big ono!!! i’m feeling pretty good now but will be feeling a lot better when i’m dipping some fresh cut pieces into shoyu and wasabi. i feel like i’m living in a dream world…
