{"id":97571,"date":"2019-01-02T15:22:24","date_gmt":"2019-01-02T06:22:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?p=97571"},"modified":"2019-01-02T15:22:24","modified_gmt":"2019-01-02T06:22:24","slug":"start-of-2019-welcome-to-surfers-bird-box","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/?p=97571","title":{"rendered":"Start of 2019:  Welcome to Surfers Bird Box"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/bird-box-1151538.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97573\" \/><br \/>\nthe movie Bird Box has been in my mind ever since i watched it.  so this morning, i decided to start off the new year differently.  it all started early this morning at pitch dark.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-02-at-5.35.28-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"732\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97576\" \/><br \/>\ni didn&#8217;t need a blindfold walking down the cliffs at Diamond Head because i couldn&#8217;t see anything anyway.  i took small steps going just by feel.  if i fell, i would roll down the cliff and my foil board would be totaled.  so yes, keeping calm was the key as this was the first time in my life i hiked down a trail with zero light.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-02-at-5.36.06-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97574\" \/><br \/>\ni paddled out in the pitch dark too.  and when i got out to the outside, i couldn&#8217;t believe how big the waves were!  big, windy, and crazy!  all i could see were the street lights on Diamond Head and dark shades of big swells.  it was beautiful!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-02-at-5.36.29-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"777\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97581\" \/><br \/>\ni was pretty much blind, but decided to start off the new year taking risks.  foiling in the pitch dark is not recommended at all.  but high risks equal high reward&#8230;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-02-at-5.37.40-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"723\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97577\" \/><br \/>\nthe first 2 waves, i couldn&#8217;t see anything.  i was foiling by feel and it felt so dam good!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-02-at-5.36.51-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97579\" \/><br \/>\nit was actually pretty wild.  the ocean was super rough and super alive.  i was screaming and loving the feeling!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-02-at-5.38.14-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97572\" \/><br \/>\nthen it started getting lighted, and a few hard core surfers made their way out to the lineup.  the waves cleaned up and it was absolutely perfect!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-02-at-5.38.49-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97575\" \/><br \/>\ni already had my adrenaline rush so this was my last wave right as the first sunrise of the year was happening.  this is called &#8220;living the moment!&#8221;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-02-at-5.39.27-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"726\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97578\" \/><br \/>\ni felt like a free bird.  i felt like the happiest man on earth!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/go-naminori.com\/kirbyfukunaga\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Screen-Shot-2019-01-02-at-5.39.50-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"718\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-97580\" \/><br \/>\nthis is going to be a wonderful year.  been planning trips and dreaming big.  2019 is already so dam amazing!
