HAPPINESS IS ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED
i finished the book “Into the Wild” last month. ever since i started reading it, i could feel myself changing a little. i was so fascinated on Christopher Johnson McCanddeless life that my thoughts have changed. i even went deeper into researching about the movie and found some interesting comments about his life. there were a lot of critics out there saying things like “how stupid, uneducated, and unexperienced” John was. some people went as far as saying things like “good for him” or “he deserved to die.”
i was kind of sad on how people can judge other peoples aspirations and dreams. my feeling on John is he was such a brave kid. not too many 22 year old kids these days have the balls to go out and take high risk chances in life. that’s what i respect about him so much. he had a dream, he set off to achieve it, and he died doing what he loved to do. there is absolutely not a single person in this world that is totally prepared for what nature has to offer them. nature took his life and now he’s in a great place. he died happy and made sure people knew that. so why feel sad? why get mad?
one quote he wrote in his diary really stuck out “HAPPINESS IS ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED.” after all the hate he had for his parents and for the world, he finally realized what the truth was. the thing that’s sad is that if he made it out of the alaska wilderness alive, he would have been a really forgiving, loving, and respected young man. he learned about how he wanted to live his life from being in the wild. the wild taught him what was important and what wasn’t. i think that is the coolest thing in the world. when you can learn about nature and yourself by being alone, it’s a great thing.
i’m sure a lot of people read the book and really followed or are following John’s aspirations. there are probably hundreds of kids trying to find their right path in life. my advise to them would be “Go For It!” i’m truly inspired by the book and movie “Into the Wild.” if you haven’t read or watched it yet, please do. as for me, i’m already “Into the Wild!” i know what happiness is and i know that it’s only real when shared. my family and friends taught me that, and now i hope to teach others.” live your dreams and never give up!
Hawaiian Hazy Dayz!
still not quite home yet. it’s another long and unpredictable journey back to hawaii. this is part of my traveling life and i kind of like it. the only thing i wish would be different would be the food at the airport. i’m sick of eating unhealthy and expensive fried chicken or hamburgers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. and the food in the airplane isn’t much better. i kind of feel my body getting out of shape and out of balance from all this airplane rides, transits, and layovers. it makes me really appreciate hawaii so much more. right when i get back to hawaii, i’m going to eat a juicy rib eye steak, a nice hot pho, some rice and natto, and drink my kombucha! then get in the water as fast as possible. i miss the warm clean water we have in hawaii. after diving 4 days straight of dirty water, i can’t wait to open my eyes and see fish!
want to thank Mike for the south shore report. yes, i already checked the weather and surf report and i know it’s going to be a wonderful week of surfing. i can’t wait! but first, i must get home. haha. but for now, i’m still stuck in the same airport lifestyle. eating expensive and unhealthy hamburgers and fried chicken for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. yuck!
see you back in hawaii hopefully very soon!
