Safe Mountain

197

i get asked over and over “is Mauna Kea safe?”  the answer to that is “absolutely yes!”   i felt safer up there than i feel at some parts in Honolulu.  it’s policed by their own people.  it’s respected by everybody and the rules are very strict.  it’s a place where you wouldn’t even think about breaking any kind of rule.   the respect and aloha for others is at the highest level it can ever be.  and no matter if you’re for or against the telescope, your views are totally respected.  so if you’re still contemplating about going or not, seeing it for yourself is a game changer for sure.  i’ll teach you how to get there soon.  it’s very cheap and very easy…some of the Hawaiians were flashing hand signs forming a mountain.  then Mateus started doing the same thing.  i asked him “how did you know about that?”  he said “this is the Power Ranger sign.”   haha.  that was so cute!   one day when Mateus grows up, he will look back at this day and feel like he made a difference…

just to clear it up again, i’m not a protester.  i looked at both sides of the argument and decided to support the protectors.  it’s their land and like one of the leaders said “TMT has Plan B which is to build the telescope in the Canary Islands.  us Hawaiians don’t have Plan B.  this is our land and there will be no telescope built on it.  that’s it!”   he is absolutely right!
