james oshiro is the handyman. he can do anything and fix anything. he’s one of the main reasons why us divers land so many fish. diving takes teamwork and james is like the captain of the team. without him, we’d be helpless….
captain james helps get our gear ready, he helps us bring up fish, he fixes our gear with it breaks, he’s backup boatman, and most important of all, he always keeps an eye on every diver when where in the water. and last but not least, james also helps with the chumming. what is chumming? chumming is taking a dead fish, cutting it up into scraps while hovering over 100′ deep blue water, in hope of attracting attention. attention by small fish, then bigger fish, then bigger fish, then sometime big sharks too. the water starts to get crazy and that’s the idea. chumming is a dirty job but without it, no fish. james, your the man….
and not to mention, james can freakin surf!!! check him out in the barrel… i’ve been asked over 20 times, by friends or by emails about this spot. my answer is always the same: “this is a secret spot somewhere between timor and sumba. we spent 14 days and a lot of money finding it. so what the heck makes you think i will tell you where it is? find it for yourself. IF YOU DON’T GO, YOU WON’T KNOW”. so please don’t ask me again. i’m not trying to be an asshole, i’m just taking the boys scout honor on this one. you have to beat me up pretty dam good before i start talking….
