this was Joshua’s first round heat yesterday morning. i could see the confidence in this kid, and i could see his calmness. i knew he was going to do good…after winning his first round, he was glowing. surfing big perfect Pipeline with only 3 other surfers out is any surfers dream. congratulations again Joshua. you made me a very proud unko…i was wondering why they didn’t run the final day of the Roxy Pro on Maui yesterday? the contest supposed to start at 8am but at 7:50am, a local surfer got attacked by a huge tiger shark. he got bit in the leg, bleeding out, and unconscious. if it wasn’t for the water patrol on the skis getting ready for the contest, that man wouldn’t have made it. he’s in the hospital and will live to tell his story… a 17 inch or 43 centimeter bite is from a big shark.this is every surfers nightmare…wisely, they called off the contest after that. now the big decision comes: do you totally cancel the contest? or do you run it on another day? if i was the contest director, i’d cancel the event and run the finals on Oahu somewhere. that tiger shark got it’s taste of human blood and nobody knows if she’ll will come back or not? the creepy part is she’s still there and that’s her home. we are just visitors to the ocean and have to respect that…
