The Cultural Passport

171

everybody loves dolphins.  it’s just part of American culture to adore these beautiful creatures.  i sure do.  but remember i said “American culture.”

but in other parts of the world, dolphins are a source of income and food.  the people of the Faroe Islands hunt dolphins to feed themselves and have been doing this for a thousand years.  it’s legal and it’s part of their culture.  so when activist from other parts of the world go over there and protest these hunts, it makes me angry.  Hawaiians hunt and eat pigs, Americans hunt deer, Japanese eat horse, Africans eat elephants, Indonesians hunt orangutans, and i can go on and on.  we all have our own cultures and beliefs and i don’t think it’s fair to impose our beliefs on others.  culture is culture so love it or leave it.  it’s very narrow minded to think your own culture is the guideline the rest of the world should follow.  i suggest you go travel to learn about these cultures.  so stop complaining and get a passport!
