we just came in from a surf and this reporter came up to me and said “i heard there’s a problem with the parking here. something like the surfers are frustrated with hotel workers using this parking lot?” he asked if he could interview me for the news and first i said “no way. i don’t want to cause problems between surfers and workers.” then i thought “um, maybe i should tell both sides of the story because both sides have their own reason. yes this parking lot is for surfers, but it’s literally the last free parking lot in Waikiki.”
the answer to this problem is pretty simple. there are signs that say you can only park for 6 hours or less. so why aren’t the rules being enforced? if there are no consequences, there is no remedy. start giving tickets and towing cars, then the hotel workers won’t park there anymore. pretty simple right? this should have been taken care of 20 years ago. paying to put up parking restriction signs and not enforcing the restrictions makes no sense to me.
anyway, click below to see the parking problem that frustrates surfers. of course, i’m not frustrated because if i was a hotel worker, i’d park there too. so yeah, think about 2 sides of the story before you decide who to get frustrated at. i have hotel worker friends that park there and all i can say it that they’re smart. why not right?
