Singapore has the death penalty for drug traffickers too. 
and so does Taiwan. in America, some drug traffickers get warnings or little jail time. no way you will get the death penalty. but once again, that’s in America. once you leave this country, you must obey by their rules and if you don’t, expect to go to jail if you’re lucky, or die by a firing squad if you’re not so lucky.
now this hot topic of this famous American NBA star that smuggled marijuana into Russia. she pleaded GUILTY today and will probably spend at least 10 years in a Russian jail. there is a huge political movement to get her released, or even do a prisoner swap? what do you think? this is what i think: if you travel to other counties, you better obey their rules. and if you don’t know their rules, you better check before you land. most countries have strict rules against marijuana and they enforce those rules to the fullest. so just because you can get away with things like this in America, it doesn’t mean you can get away with it in other countries.
