there was an accident in Florida between a surfer and foiler. lots of haters are saying it’s the foilers fault. first of all, you can’t judge this by a photo. i’m a foiler and if a surfer paddles around me catching every single wave, i’m going to go on the next wave no matter what. no matter if i’m on a bodyboard, surfboard, or foil, i’m going to go. and if i’m a surfer, i would never ever try to surf in front of a foiler. it’s just way too dangerous.
so here’s my advice for foilers. if you’re beginning, stay away from good surfers because good surfers hate foilers. you can foil around SUP or longboard beginners because they are just as dangerous as you are. so they basically can’t say anything. if you’re a good foiler, you should be able to foil where ever you want because you are good enough to know right from wrong.
and my advice for surfers. just accept it already. foilers are here to stay and most foilers are so happy that they don’t care what you think. i foil with some pretty crazy watermen that will foil where ever they want. so the best thing is to keep quite.
since i do both, i understand both sides. and based on my observations, the only guys saying bad things about foilers are the ones that can’t foil. if i didn’t know how to foil, i’d be a hater too. haha.
