12 years ago, i decided to search for my family roots. i asked my Grandpa Fukunaga and he told me he had a younger sister that lived in Yokohama. so i called her up, went to her house, and met her for the very first time. we had a really nice talk about our family history. we ate sushi, drank a beer, and laughed a lot. Aunty was very positive and talked about her big family. i even met a cousin that i didn’t know i had at her house too. when i was leaving, i gave Aunty a hug and told her “i’m so happy to have met you. you have a good life.” she replied “no, i have a wonderful life!” i haven’t used the word wonderful up until that day, but ever since, i use “wonderful” every single day. because she was right, life isn’t only good, life is wonderful! Aunty passed away a few years after that visit but her words of wisdom still lives deep in my heart…
