putting together a Mentawai boat trip is pretty tricky. first, you have to find a good boat, a boat that is fast and reliable. fast because you want to get to surf spots as quick as possible. reliable because you don’t want to break down and get stuck in the middle of nowhere. Sansoucci was the best at that time. second, you have to find a good crew. i wanted my closest friends, and also a mix of boys and girls to keep the balance. that was easy because everyone i asked wanted to go. and last, you want to promote the trip before it even happens. you need a good photographer, writer, and videographer, and also connections to the top surfing media so you can guarantee everyones sponsors that the trip will be published. luckily, it was published in Surf Trip Journal, Go-Naminori and Flipper. i was a little stressed up until the day we boarded the boat because anything can happen. but once we pulled anchor and set sail, it was all about having fun. i’m sure the boys and girls on this trip will never forget the fishing, diving, sashimi, bintangs, partying, and most of all, the BARRELS!
