Boat trips to the Mentawai’s aren’t as easy as people think. First, it costs a lot of money. Second, it takes a lot of planning and commitment. Last, you have to lug your luggage around and pay for excess baggage at every airport. And that doesn’t guarantee that your boards make it on time, or if it’s damaged or not. The total time it takes for me to get to the Mentawai’s from Hawaii is approximately 3 days. 
But once you arrive and catch your first wave, the whole process is worth it. It’s an experience of a lifetime. Just ask Maoh Toda who got 20 barrels like this. Totally priceless!
