Snorkel Talk

527

It’s pretty rare to have such a calm and silent day out in the ocean.  If you can see in the distance, that is the island of Oahu.  So we are about 20 miles or 32 kilometers out at sea.  It’s so quiet that it’s basically silent out there.  When I’m driving the boat, I can hear the boys talking through their snorkels.  If you’re underwater, you won’t hear anything, but we still talk like that anyway.  Basically talking to ourselves.  I heard things like “wow, clean water.  so beautiful.  watch out for that shark.  oh, jellyfish.  OMG, you missed.  OMG, I missed.  and so forth.”  I’m listening to the conversations laughing to myself.

Free diving is the most therapeutic thing you can possibly do.  It’s basically you and the ocean.  Once you’re in the water, you’re in your own world with zero distractions.  All you hear are the whales singing and as you go deeper and deeper, you almost catch yourself falling asleep.

Sometimes you have a weird feeling like something is watching you.  There are many times I turn around and there is a shark right behind my fins.  Sometimes whales too.

On this day, it was so calm that the boat wasn’t even moving.  I don’t remember ever diving on a calm day like that.  You couldn’t ask for any better conditions.

Want to congratulate my brother for finishing the Honolulu Marathon this morning.  He didn’t need his slippers this year but he took it on his waist belt just in case.  I still don’t understand why he does it???
