As we were driving back to the harbor after a very long day, the 2 boys said “I think today was our best diving day ever.” They both caught prized fish and found new dive spots. I just went along for the ride and it was a good one. The kids know how to hunt!
There were so many fish and if the boys wanted to fill up the cooler, they could have in 2 hours. BUT, they know better. The were being very selective and targeting only what they wanted to eat. I was pretty proud of them for being very responsible divers.
For the past few years, Joshua has been spearing big Uku’s. I watch how he hunts them and it can’t get any better. He approaches the fish very calmly and takes the shot at the perfect time. Sometimes it happens fast, and sometimes he’s underwater forever. But he always comes up with the biggest fish.
This Uku wasn’t as big as the last one he speared when we went diving, but it was still big enough to feed the whole family fresh sashimi. Good job Joshua!
After Joshua speared his, Benji went down and got one too. The boys took me to their secret dive spot and I just watched and learned. Kind of got teary eyes at times because as I was watching them, I was remembering when they first started. They are true waterman now and know the ocean very well. Now I hope they can teach their own nephews how to dive. That’s my dream.
I targeted the delicious Mu’s. Thank goodness I chose the right speargun. These are my favorite fish to eat!
Today was a day to clean and prepare fish. One Mu for the steamer, one Mu for sashimi, one Papio to fry, one Papio for sashimi, fish head for fish head soup, and one Munu for a present. I’ll be eating fresh fish all week long! So healthy and happy!
