There was a half-marathon this morning so all the roads were closed. There was zero access from Diamond Head all the way to the Aloha Tower. I always ask myself “why would you close all the access to the beaches on a Sunday morning?”
Round 1: Road closures bother me but there are always alternatives. We drove around looking for waves and decided on surfing waves of consequence.
Just jumping off this cliff is very dangerous. Surprisingly, the waves were fun so we decided to surf at one of the most dangerous waves in the world. You can’t make any mistakes here.
I was telling Mighty Mouse to keep calm and when I say paddle, paddle with confidence. I’ve surfed here since high school and this spot still makes me a little nervous. We caught 2 waves each and one of my waves was the longest wave I rode in a very long time. Mighty Mouse was so happy to survive this surf session. Her adrenaline was sky high all the way home.
Round 2: Driving through Ala Moana beach park this afternoon. One parking stall just happened to open up, we looked out to the ocean and there were waves!
We paddled out to my favorite spot and had it all to ourselves. The rights were as perfect as could be.
If you take time to look for waves, you will find it. Today it happened twice and we went home feeling very content to surf 2 rounds without anybody out. Hope you had a happy Sunday!
