Round 1: The waves were super fun this morning. Mighty Mouse riding a 5’11 and feeling comfortable on it.
Sunny sky, warm water, glassy conditions, and perfect waves.
Both rights and lefts were so fun. Bruce on the right and Kyle on the left.
Just the locals today. Not enough waves for visitors.
Round 2: The waves looked small so we went free diving instead. There was a bait ball right outside of Waikiki. It’s the first time I saw one out there so we were so excited. See the black spot? That’s tens of thousands of fish swimming together trying to avoid predators. It’s called a bait ball and of my 40 years of diving off Waikiki, this was my first sighting. I told Mighty Mouse to jump in and swim right in the middle.
5 minutes later, she came straight back to the boat with a little spooked facial expression. She said a shark showed up on the bait ball. Yes, every bait ball will have a shark or two. That’s nature and its food chain.
A once in a lifetime experience. You just never know when and what the ocean will show you. You just have to be ready!
