Indies Trader: The Dream Lives On…

9

Round 1:  We pull into the parking lot in the dark and a surfer walks up to my car.  He was visibly shaken like he seen a ghost or something.  He said he was out earlier on his board when a shark knocked him off.  Then the shark came back and knocked him off again.  Wow!

The girls understand we are visitors to the ocean.  They understand that sharks exist at ever surf spot in the world.  If there is ocean, there are sharks.  So it’s just another day surfing with the upmost respect of the ocean and its guardians.

The waves were good, and the crowd was thin.  Not everybody wants to surf when the sharks are patrolling.  Mighty Mouse on a nice left.

We stayed out for more than 3 hours.  Lots of waves and lots of rides.

Round 2:  The Diamond Head Challenge.  This is how you learn about the ocean, wind, current, and humbleness.

I was so surprised to see the Indies Trader on the same dock at Mayuki.  It will be here for a few months so hopefully I can get on board to check it out.

This is the most iconic surf boat in surfing history.  The first boat to discover the Mentawai’s.  Along with discovering hundreds of world class surf breaks around the world.

When I first saw the Indies Trader while in the Mentawai’s back 25 years ago, I instantly had a new dream.  That dream was to charter a boat, invite 10 of my closest friends, and surf somewhere in this beautiful world.  That dream still lives on…
