Yamaha OEM: Bali vs. Hawaii

8

Mike showed me a good place in Bali to buy parts for my motors.  It’s a marine shop near Denpasar.

It’s a very local shop that has lots of toys.

I needed a lot of different parts and seals for 2 motors.  There is only one place in Hawaii that sells it so it’s like a monopoly.  It’s so expensive!   Anyway, I check the prices before I went to Bali and found out that it much cheaper over there.  Everything was 1/3 the price so I saved a lot of money.

I’m taking my time because I want everything right.  I’m still learning and am very excited for everything.

So here’s a lower unit I just pulled off one of the motors.  In that white cap, there is an impeller and a water pump.  If either fails, your engine will break and cost thousands to fix.  Or worst, you will be stuck in the middle of the ocean.

Changing the impeller and water pump should be done every 300 hours on the motor or every 1 to 3 years, which ever comes first.  3 years came first to it was time.

My brother changed it for me the past 2 times but this time I wanted to do it alone.  The more I’m involved with the motors, the more I will understand it.  After my boat breaking 5 hours away from Oahu last time, I learned that I should know everything and anything about my motors.

A cheap fix if you do it by yourself.  A very expensive fix if you hire a mechanic.  I just did both motors so it’s become very easy to do.  I also learned how the water flows through the motor and cools the system.  Whatever has to do with FLOW, I want to know…
