good evening. went out to the north shore this morning. checked rocky’s and ehukai. rocky’s looked better but kenji sahara was shooting ehukai so i’d figure better work. i actually had a great session and got some fun waves. it was pretty cold but felt so good surfing… not too many people were out. kalani chapman and kalani robb were ripping the lefts. just another fun day at the beach….
on the way back to town, we stopped by the hokulea that’s docked at sand island. my friend had to drop off a bag of clothes because he’s going on the next hokulea voyage. they have been trying to leave everyday for the past week but due to bad weather, couldn’t. how the heck can you navigate with clouds? if you can’t see the stars, forget it…
the hokulea isn’t that big. it’s so amazing how they made it to such places like japan, tahiti, and pretty much all over the world. i would love to go on a voyage someday….
the hokulea has so much history. remember eddie aikau? yeah, eddie was the crew member that left with his surfboard to get some help when the hokulea capsized in the middle of the ocean. stay with the boat and hope to get rescued? or risk your life trying to save other lives? that one was pretty simple for eddie. “eddie would go” and eddie went. so when ever i see the saying “eddie would go”, i don’t think about him charging waimea bay, i always think about him risking his life to save others. a true waterman, and a true hawaiian lifeguard….
going to sand island today and standing in front of the hokulea created another dream for me. a dream that i hope someday comes true…. bon voyage….
