Old Pure Hawaii

38

I drove by Aina Hina shopping mall today and was totally shocked.  OMG, the huge historic monkeypod tree fell!  That tree has been there for over 50 years.  I remember going to my grandma’s house passing by that tree all the time.  It was pretty sad seeing that.

I also passed by Kahala Foodland and when I walked by the poke section, I was surprised on how good everything looked.  It looked so fresh that is started to get hungry.

So I order a poke bowl.  A combination of ahi Hawaiian and spicy tuna maui onion over hot rice.

The result?  That was by far the best poke bowl I’ve eaten in a very long time.  Possibly the best on the island.

I was cleaning up my closet and found a box of old photos.  So funny to see these kind of old school photos.  I was such a small kid.

I think I was about 15 years old in this photo taken back in about 1982.  Nobody believes me but I was the smallest kid in my class.  I use to always get picked on so surfing was my freedom.  I would have either died or went to jail without it.  My friend Holli use to pretend she was my mom and wrote letters to my teachers saying that I was sick.  Then I’d park my bike at Carter’s house and go surfing during school hours.  That’s how much I loved surfing, and still do…
