My Little Guide

i had a great time yesterday with Matsui-san and Fuyu-kun. after we surfed good bowls in the morning, i asked 11 year old Fuyu-kun what does he want to do. he already had a list. sports authority, king kamehameha statue, koko head hiking, diamond head hiking, etc…. how did he know of all these places? japanese tv. haha. cute kid.

first stop was the king kamehameha statue. can you believe today was the first time in my life i actually stopped here? yes, i drove by thousands of times but never stopped once. thanks to my kid guide Fuya-kun, it was a first for me.

then it was my turn. hey, did you guys ever seen whales before? “no.” ok, let’s go to my secret spot and watch whales. i knew they were there but didn’t want to guarantee them 100%. we seen 3 jumping all over the place and it was pretty amazing. then Fuya-kun wanted to hike koko head crater (in the back of this picture). i said “no thank you.” haha. his father and i looked at each other and both said “no thank you.” i hiked up that mountain once before and coming down, i thought both of my knees broke. that trail is not good for your knees. after that, it was off to sandy beach, makapuu, and back for an afternoon session at bowls. can’t believe how good the waves in town have been recently.

nothing is complete without a waiola shave ice. i took them there last year and they didn’t forget how good it was. i had a great time with this father and son. it was so cool to watch them surf together and i’m sure that the ocean will build a bond that can’t be broken. thanks for surfing with me!
big swell and weird winds coming this week. you have to know where to go and if you do, you will score. i do, and i’m not telling you. haha.
