i really like shooting on the south shore. just to see our endless waves this winter making everybody happy is cool. yesterday was super fun, so was the day before. the water finally cleaned up, the winds backed down, and the sun was out. the real hawaii is back in business. here yuko-chan doing a bottom turn with an airplane full of 325 passengers heading back to japan. nice sun, nice surfer equals nice photo!
it’s mid winter here in hawaii and it still feels like paradise! and the funny thing is i’m not the only one thinking that way. the local surfer girls are back!!
i got a call from a teacher from Mid-Pacific (Mid-Pac) Institute a few days ago. i was asked to speak to her 8th grade classes about our We Are One missions. i thought it was a joke? me? a public school boy that barely graduated from high school? usually, i would hang up the phone and say “sorry, wrong number.” but because this is about tohoku and japan, there is no way i was going to say no. Mid-Pacific is a Private school for privileged kids that are all pretty smart. i had friends that went there and our education was on a totally different level. they would study after school, we would surf. it feels weird and i’m kind of nervous. i was nervous speaking to the 3rd grade kids at Hokulani Elementary school last year, but this is going to be twice the anxiety. i have my photos ready, i have my stories ready, but my i don’t have my english ready. i better speak slowly so everybody can understand what i’m saying. surfer english won’t work at an elite school like Mid-Pac. tomorrow is my big day so wish me luck. i’m going to walk in there with my ONE tshirt, tell the kids why i love japan, and hopefully i can get one or two to fall in love with the same country i would die for. We Are One!
