Shark or Dinner?

308

i forgot to post yet another blog the other day. i come home all tired and sunburned, write a blog, and forget to post it? OMG! my brain isn’t working to well recently. anyway, here it is. and for those of you who don’t believe there are sharks in waikiki, you better start believing!

i was down by waikiki yesterday evening looking at the ocean. the tide was kind of low so parts of the reef were sticking out. all of a sudden, i seen a fin rise out of the water where it was less than knee deep. i thought it was a turtle at first, but then i seen a big fin pop out. it was a shark? cool! i said “wow, shark” and this elderly man came and said to me, “did you see it?” i said “yeah.” he told me that he comes here everyday to watch the sunset and sees the 4′ shark all the time. wow, cool! i think it’s cool, but i’m sure the tourists wouldn’t think the same. haha.

he showed me photos on his digital camera that he took of the shark a few days before. he said that it’s there everyday. guess where it is? sorry, can’t say because your kids probably swim there all the time. and no, i don’t want to scare the kids away of a shark swimming in the waters of waikiki. i think it’s pretty cool for that shark to come in to shore to eat some food in the evenings. i’ll go check it out again for sure. maybe get some underwater video.

now this shark encounter is a different story. i was in tahiti and just speared a papio. see it on my spear? well, the blood attracted a couple of hungry sharks and one tried to eat my fish. feed the shark or feed myself? i chose to feed myself. the trick to saving your fish for dinner is to pull the fish close to your body and protect it. it may sound crazy but if you leave it out far away, the shark will eat it for sure. just one tip: watch behind you because you just don’t know when another hungry shark will come into the picture. dive safe!
