my first car was a VW squareback. i was 15 years old and a very happy kid when i bought it with my own hard earned money. it was a surf/party car that had thousands of memories. i ended up selling it and now, i regret it. recently, i’ve been looking around for another one.
a guy down my street is selling this squareback for $4,500. i had to go check it out.
when i sat in it and started it up, lot’s of memories came back. i drove it around my valley and felt like a 15 year old kid again. someday, i will find a good one and when that day comes, i will buy it, and relive my childhood life. haha.
if you buy an old VW in hawaii, you’re most likely to find rust on it. the salt water in the air eats away the frame after 40 plus years. if you want a good one, you have to look on the mainland. not too much rust, more selection, and a lot cheaper. this one was going for $5,500.
so far, this is my favorite one. how is this for a surf car? the good thing about this is it’s cheap and original. the bad thing is that somebody will steal this in less than a week.
ever since i sold mine 25 years ago, i’ve always wanted to get another one. and just by looking for a good used one makes me excited. it might not be tomorrow, but i will get one of these someday. and when i do, i’m going to pick up all my high school friends, put a cooler in the back, play kalapana, and party like how we use to do it in the 80’s. can’t wait!
