Aokigahara Suicide Forest

246

hello! had a 5.5 hour marathon surf session yesterday again! the waves were so fun! too tired last night to come home and download some photos i took so gotta wait a little. busy day today surfing, packing, and getting ready for a short weekend trip. a much needed trip for me because my body is saying “enough sun!!!” i’ll be in an air conditioned casino trying to win my million dollars. if i do, i’m going to use it to build parks in tohoku. so wish me luck!
the japanese news reported yesterday that 1 in 4 japanese has thought of suicide. don’t really like to talk about this topic but i really think it’s important for everybody to know the reality of what goes on these days. the economy is bad and that’s a big reason. been hearing all kinds of stories of people committing suicide. if one of you are reading this, please reconsider. think about your loved ones. think about the suffering they will have to endure. find a way out. find the ocean. find surfing. find something that can make you a happy person. smile and everything will be ok.
this is a heavy video of a forest i heard a lot about. read it and watch this chilling video of one man’s quest to save people that are at the end of their rope.
“The Aokigahara Forest is the most popular site for suicides in Japan. After the ‘novel Kuroi Jukai’ was published, in which a young lover commits suicide in the forest, people started taking their own lives there at a rate of 50 to 100 deaths a year. The site holds so many bodies that the Yakuza pays homeless people to sneak into the forest and rob the corpses. The authorities sweep for bodies only on an annual basis, as the forest sits at the base of Mt. Fuji and is too dense to patrol more frequently.”
