2 nights ago when i was heading down to wakayama, i called kimura-san and said “i want to go diving! get the boat ready!” yes, i’m pretty selfish, not shellfish when it comes to diving. why? because i know we will catch, and i know we will eat. and these big juicy creamy oysters will cost hundreds of dollars in a restaurant, but not our restaurant. it’s been a while since i dove with matsu but we didn’t forget how to work as a team. and also eat as a team.
this is called rock oysters. huge, creamy, and best eaten raw. i wish we had these back in hawaii.
do you know what sazae is? kind of like a clam or abalone taste. another expensive shellfish here in japan. oysters and sazae for dinner with a cold draft beer? you have to be kidding! wish you were here.
every time i come to wakayama, it’s Marutaya Ramen in the day, and Ushio Sushi at night. a great combination.
the food is so fresh and good. if we had a restaurant like this back in hawaii, it would be a success. dive in the morning, and get your catch prepared for you at night. a fisherman’s dream.
sawara or “ono.” oishi or “ono.”
then just as things couldn’t get any better, local surfer Tera-san walked in with sweet cherry’s and huge mango’s. i was full!
came back home last night and jumped on the scale. i was 77.7 kilos. haha. i gained 5.7 kilos (12.7 lbs.) in 4 days. 5.7 kilos of pure happiness! if i lived all year in japan, i’d be a sumo wrestler. it’s just too good to pass up. anyway, going to be surfing everyday from today so should lose some weight. see you in shikoku!
last, yesterday was sunday here in japan and 5 people died and 1500 people hospitalized from the heat. yes, it’s that hot outside and i’ve never experienced a heat wave like this before. drink lots of water and don’t go outside for too long.
