we had a good time in hawaii with the Kimura-san family. just to see the kids smiling was an awesome feeling for me, and for the others who know this wonderful family from kobuchihama. i was lost for words when i watched the first documentary on Kimura-san that come out on japanese television. the emotions going through my heart felt like a knife was stuck in there. it was so painful to hear his story and it was more painful to realize that his kids lost their older brother and mother. honestly, it still hurts till this day for me and i’m sure our other ONE volunteers feel the same. Kimura-san has taught me a lot about life. just by watching how he takes care of his kids, how he moves forward with his life, and how he keeps on smiling. a strong person in and out that just won’t give up. it might sound weird, but i get a lot of strength from him even though we live so far away. i talked to him on the phone the other day after i got out of the water from surfing. just that 1 minute talk made my day. i feel connected in some way and my life has changed ever since i met him back in april 2011.
anyway, FujiTV made another documentary on Kimura-san’s story that just aired on television. as i watched it, my heart broke again. and again, i’m lost for words. please take the time to watch his story and i hope you can all learn something from this wonderful man. it’s in japanese and i hope someday somebody translates it to english because i want all the people in japan and hawaii that supported our missions to connect with him just like we did.
and to the Kimura-san family and all the people we met in tohoku, you’re in my heart every single day. until we meet again.
