last month when i went diving on the east side, i met my friend at the boat ramp. hurlden and i were classmates since 7th grade. haven’t seen him in a while but come to find out, he’s been fishing for tako for the past 25 years. he supplies most of the restaurants with fresh tako everyday. this guy has so much experience and knows all the secrets. so i ask him “hey hurlden, teach me the tricks man. tell me where to go.” he looks at me like i’m crazy because good fishermen don’t give up their secrets. then after 15 minutes, he whispers in my ear, “hey kirby, i’ll give you one of my secret spots but please don’t tell anybody where it is.” of course brother, my lips are sealed.
so toda-san, takami-san, joshua, and seth jump on my boat and we head straight to the spot hurlden told me to go too. we jump in and seth and josh find 2 tako’s in less then 5 minutes. we stayed in that area and found 6 huge tako’s!!!! now i know exactly where that spot is and when i want to eat tako, i can go out there and guarantee find some fresh big ones. and the next off, i’m going to call hurlden and go diving with him. i want to learn from the best, and i want to teach the youth how it’s done so they can feed their families for the rest of their lives. i better go eat my tako poke! cheers!
