good evening. wow!!! what a day!!! the eddie went!! and so did wakita. i left home this morning during peak traffic with my brother and the moped and bicycle in the back. we parked at laniakea where the traffic started and i was cycling as fast as possible because i didn’t want to miss wakita’s heat…. i didn’t go to waimea bay today to see kelly slater, sunny garcia, andy irons, or other big wave riders. i went to waimea bay to see and support japanese pro surfer takayuki wakita. it’s awesome to see a japanese surfer invited to this prestigious event!!!
i ran down to the beach as they were calling wakita’s name. i seen him focused and smiling walking with his son and board caddy oomori-san on his side. i shot some cool photos of him that i will post later. i ran to the point to shoot his heat and got some amazing photos. after wakita came in, he was smiling and looked super happy. i was stoked for him!!!
the crowd was crazy. half the island was there. and every time somebody would catch a good wave, everybody would be screaming. it was like football game….
the waves were solid 20′ with some bigger sets. that’s what it takes for the eddie to go!!!
kelly slater was in the drivers seat all morning. he was leading the event from the start going into the last heat. then his magic ran out. somebody else came from behind and won the event….
the man is who spoiled kelly’s day was Greg Long. who? yeah, you could call him the dark horse…. it’s good to see somebody new become a star!!!
**took 500 photos that will be posted soon so stay tuned. for now, i’m going to sleep because today was a long long day. just wanted to say congratulations to wakita for putting on a good show. and also thanks to kinsan for the morning surf report. kinsan called me at 7am from the back of the jet ski in the water at waimea bay. have a great evening!!!
