Hawaiians Dominate Rusty Gromfest at Pererenan, Bali
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 April, 2010 : – – Hawaii’s Isaiah Moniz claimed victory over a highly competitive field of local and international talent at the second event of the three-part Rusty Gromfest series at Pererenan, Canggu, Bali.
Isaiah narrowly defeated local favorite Jeren Kiring in the final, held in 2-3 foot left hand wedges at the ‘sandbar’ bank. Jeren was surfing razor sharp but couldn’t find a second wave that offered high scoring potential. Koko Mitsua and Ediana Putra finished third and fourth respectively.
“It was really close and it came down to who could pick the best waves. Fortunately for me I found a good one that linked up to the inside.” said Isaiah after the final. “I want to thank the locals for sharing their waves today, it’s the highlight of my trip.”
In the under 14 division final it was an International affair with Seth Moniz (Isaiah’s brother) taking it out over Australian Luke Hynd, local boy Prayuda, and Matshushita Ryota from Japan. Seth turned heads from the outset, securing great scoring rides in all his heats and impressing the judges with his explosive style.
