packing is really fun because you know the trip is getting near and your putting all your favorite toys in. all i need is my passport, surfboards, speargun, and i’m happy. i got my toybag weighing in at 24 kilos, my suitcase weighing in at 23 kilos, and my carry on weighing in at 14 kilos. now the fun part of going to the airport and hassling with the check in procedures….

last year was a great diving trip to the mentawai islands. plenty of fish and plenty of sashimi. this fish was speared in the deep blue water…

this year? just wait and see…. we have a wonderful mixture in our crew. surfers, stand up paddlers, bodyboarders, divers, and just your ordinary travelers. i’ll be posting blogs from the mentawai islands so stay tuned. we’re arriving to padang airport and heading straight to the boat. why? because there are no places to go in padang anymore. check this email i got from the captain of our boat:
No point staying in town as there are no hotels open, they have all fallen down.
yeah, the recent earthquake flattened padang. all the hotels, restaurants, and massage places we use to go to no longer exists. this is life and this is reality. tomorrow’s 1 hour car ride to the boat through the town is going to be an eye opener for everybody….
