i got an email from a producer at NHK japan asking if they can use a photo of shun for a tv program. i sent him the photo of shun holding his trophy because he saw it on my blog. as i was digging through the photos, i came across the video clips i took that day. i was too busy to put together a video clip, but now the time has come. i’m working on it now and it should be up soon. i shot the final, shot shun winning, and much more…. this was the long walk to the lineup with 5 of hawaii’s top groms… was shun nervous? yes he was…
when shun came out of the final, he called someone. who? i would love to hear what he was saying… “hey dad, i won!, or hey dad, i don’t know how i did. or hey day, i miss you and mom and will be home soon with my trophy.” what ever shun was saying, i’m sure he sounded so dam cute…
imagine standing next to 5 top hawaiian groms and coming out the winner of such a big event? shit, i’m proud of this kid…
and what coach/shaper/surfer/legend Ben Aipa had to say was amazing. awesome job shun and congratulations on your NHK tv debut….
