check this out. look at how many people in the world make less than $1/day. and even more at less than $2/day. if you waste money, you should visit these countries. because after seeing the hard labor with the little pay some people in this world make, my dollar means a lot. just something to think about….
i recently stumbled across a video of nike sweatshops. if you don’t know what a sweatshop is, a sweatshop is where corporations like nike set up factories in poor third world countries where people work in hard conditions for little money. there are so many people across the world opposing it and back in the 80’s when it was brought to the medias attention, i did too. now? i think differently. the so called “sweatshops” bring new jobs to people that previously didn’t have any. yes, children work too, but at least they have a better working environment than normal kids that work on the street. if you all didn’t know, kids work in these poor counties to provide food and shelter for the family. they don’t work to go out and buy the new DS game, or iphone. they work hard to put food on the table for their family! i’m probably one of the few in this world that praise nike for offering new jobs to third world countries. yes, nike is making billions, but they are also creating millions of opportunities. the working conditions might not be up to par, but i’m sure it’s better than what it previously was for some of these people….
i remember my grandparents telling me how much they use to make picking pineapples for dole plantation in hawaii back in the early 1900’s. it was pennies, but it was enough for food and shelter. and the working conditions probably wasn’t any better then the sweatshops, but they never once complained. the millions of people providing food and shelter for their families in these sweatshops probably aren’t complaining either. it’s the people with money that are. hey, instead of complaining, go out and do something. like nike says “JUST DO IT.” if you feel so sorry, donate money to these poor countries, go there and volunteer work, or send your old clothes so a poor kid can use it, instead of using it to wash your car. there are so many ways we can make a difference in this world. complaining doesn’t make a difference, taking action does…
sorry, i was just venting because i read some of the comments targeted toward nike. i didn’t like some of it. nike isn’t perfect, but they are doing something for millions of families around the world. $1/day might not be enough for us in america to eat a meal, but in those countries, $1/day can go a far way….
