i want to thank the people who sent me comments, texts, and emails of support about the Taiji dolphin subject. i am also very sorry and embarrassed of the fact that US Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy released a statement of the US Government opposing the dolphin hunt. it’s sad to see such influential people judging other countries without knowing their side. yes, if you watched the very one sided movie “the cove,” you would think japan is a sick country. any one sided biased movie on any topic on any country would make anybody feel the same. it was totally unfair to the fisherman and people of wakayama and that’s the very reason why i didn’t and will never ever watch that movie. Taiji is a beautiful place with beautiful people. things are normal there, they have a rich and deep culture that goes back centuries. who are we to changes ones lifestyles that’s been carried on for hundreds of years?
anyway, i was walking through the market in cambodia the other day and saw a butcher cutting up a dog. no, i don’t think that’s cool. but at the same time, i will never hold up a big sign in protest either. this is part of the culture and no matter what people on the other side of the world say, it will never change. the world we live in is the world we live in. no matter what topic i bring up, there will be people for it, and people against it. traveling has taught me so much, especially on this special trip. not everybody in the world have the same views or opinions. people think differently and that’s ok. but no country has any right to make rules for other countries. so if i were the US Ambassador to Japan, i wouldn’t address my opinion to the japanese, i would address my opinion to america and say, “for those of you who are angry about the dolphin hunt, you can make a difference by not taking your kids to sea world and other amusement parks. japan has their culture and beliefs and we have ours.” then i would quit my job and move out of america because 80% of the americans would hate me haha.
and want to say “great job” to Japan’s Prime Minister Abe-san for sticking by the people of wakayama and their culture. your words were 100% absolutely correct.
please live an open minded life. if you can’t do that, try to travel around the world and you will learn. think of others and not just yourself. and instead of complaining about others, try to understand them. if we can all do that, this world will be a much better place for all of us.
