after 7 days of flat surf on the north shore, they were forced to run the event today. they ran the heats simultaneously at vals reef and across the channel at kammies. was it the first time in asp hawaiian history? i think so. here’s the action at vals reef…

if the waves stay small like this, i think mason ho will upset a lot of top surfers. nobody in the contest knows vals reef better than him. this is pretty much where he learned how to surf. i seen him find a nice little barrel….

**they will probably finish the event tomorrow. i hope this is a learning experience for all the young up and coming pros. yes, even at sunset beach, mother nature doesn’t cooperate during contests. you have to be versatile and be ready for anything. so surf when it’s good, and when it’s bad because you never know what’s going to happen during the contest. and if you want to be on top, you have to be ready…
