even though i don’t like going to tourist traps, i had to go to the panama canal. i’m just infatuated with technology, especially if it has to do with water or the ocean. to see the system work right in front of my eyes was amazing!
the panama canal is 77.1 kilometers or 48 miles long. the built an artificial lake that is 26 meters or 85′ above sea level in order to have the ships connect from the atlantic ocean to the pacific ocean. if it wasn’t for this canal, shipping trade would have to go all the way around in dangerous conditions. this canal opened all sorts of trade and it is the biggest shipping lane in central america. the system is based purely on nature and tides. i was fascinated!
how could people think of a system like this? whoever did is a genius.
we went there at the perfect time. we got to see 2 huge ships cross into the pacific ocean.
us amigos. Kyle, Keaka, and Demetrias enjoying the show. such a cool group of guys. gosh did we have fun!
i watched over 15 movies on my long journey. “Into the Wild” was my top 1. and “Captain Phillips” was my second. watching this brave captain stay calm and in control made me wonder what the heck went wrong in south korea? in america, the saying is “a captain must go down with its ship!” in south korea, i’m wondering what the captain was thinking. that’s pretty sad.
