good morning. wow, what a crazy feeling running down my body yesterday. after a long diving day that sucked out my energy, i come home only to get a call from shuji saying “is kinsan ok?” what? what do you mean????? getting transfered to queen’s medical center in town from the north shore in an ambulance is a big thing. i knew something terrible happened as i raced down there. this isn’t the first time a close friend ended up in queen’s emergency room and all those memories came back like it was yesterday. let me say one thing “walking into an emergency room not knowing how your friend is doing is a terrible feeling. a feeling that i hope nobody has to experience.”
well, i get there, kinsan is lying on his bed, and like always, i get greeted with a smile. even though he just had 44 staples in his head, blood running down his face and a broken neck, he was in good spirits. he told me the whole story as if i were right there. yes, it can happen to anyone. kinsan is the most hardcore photographer in the world and this isn’t the first time i’m saying this. today was super cloudy, ugly, and not the best conditions but kinsan was out there working hard. that is dedication.
kinsan got hit by a surfboard, yes, a surfboard. it scared me to see the damage a fiberglass surfboard could do to a humans head. scary. anyway, what kinsan told me was he wanted to tell everybody that he is ok, and also wanted to tell everybody to be careful. a strong message from a strong survivor.
the doctor said it could have been way worst. yes, spinal injuries are no joke. i’m glad that kinsan was in good spirits, i’m glad it wasn’t worst, and i’m glad i didn’t throw up at the hospital. i get sick when i see blood…. kinsan will be back soon and will be stronger than ever. that, i know….
can you believe they screwed this into kinsan’s skull? the nurse told me to leave, and i left….
get well soon kinsan!
**by the way, you might think i’m heartless for posting photos of this on my blog. first, kinsan wanted me to as his way to say that he’s ok. second, i don’t want 100 calls in the next 2 days asking me “is kinsan ok?”
