i was looking through my blog system and found a bunch of blogs that i forgot to post. i was either too tired or had too many drinks to push the “upload” button. so it got saved as a draft and never posted. here is one of them. it was about 2 years ago in okinawa. seems so long ago but when i remember the day i shot this photos of shimpei and kimura-san, it makes me feel like it was just yesterday.
i think shinpei horiguchi is one of the top big wave surfers in japan. and i also think that quiksilver might be a little scared to invite him to the eddie aikau waimea bay contest. why? because he can win the whole event. and it just wouldn’t look good for that contest to see a unknown kid coming out from japan sitting deeper than anybody and taking off on the waves some surfers don’t want. shinpei is nuts!!! and when the day he gets voted into that contest, i’ll put my money on him…
by the way, i took this video clip of shimpei pulling into this barrel on my last trip to okinawa. it was blue, it was big, and it was hollow.

there are 2 times in the past year i almost gave kimura-san a heart attack. once was on the north shore of hawaii when i hid near his car before he came out of the water. he opened the back door to put his surfboard in the car, i jumped in the drivers seat and hid. as he was changing in the back, i yelled from inside the car and shocked him. haha. it was super funny and you should have seen his face, but that wasn’t too nice. then this past time in okinawa, i dove down far away, swam underwater towards him, and grabbed his leg to pull him down like a shark. that wasn’t nice too. people think i’m mean. but the truth is i only do this to people i like. if i like you, i do mean things to you. that’s how i show my love… might sound weird, but i’m weird so let it be….
