good happy morning! hope you all are enjoying your day. yesterday it snowed and even though i was freezing my butt off, it was like a winter wonderland with the cherry blossoms in full bloom. japan is such a beautiful place!!!
as we drove down a street in minami soma, we seen the cutest grandma walking at a turtles pace with her walker. we did a u turn, pulled in front of her, and the girls went outside to see if she needed anything. she said “no thank you, my son is taking care of me.” we got back in the car and i thought to myself, she is a lucky person to have such a great son. but oh my, this grandma was one of the cutest grandma’s i’ve ever seen in my life. she must have been over 100 years old and has no intention of leaving minami soma.
mission 2 WE ARE ONE volunteers are from all walks of life. some good friend, some new friends. all here for the same purpose. to support japan! yesterday we were driving through the desert town of minami soma. yes, japan’s top government is saying to stay indoors, but how the heck are you supposed to buy food? oh wait! the supermarkets are closed! how are you supposed to live? anyway, we drove around with our van full of fresh fruits and were delivering it hand to hand. we passed some out to the city office, to people that are brave enough to work outdoors, and just regular people trying to live their life. we passed by the only evacuation center in minami soma and they were really appreciative. leaving that wonderful city, i had mixed emotions. most good, but a tiny part of my heart still hurts for the beautiful people there. i wish we can wake up tomorrow and everything can go back to normal.
message to minami soma: hang in there and remember that people all over the world are supporting you. we are in this together. we are one!
by the way, wanted to wish one of our volunteers miki-chan a happy birthday!!! thank you for coming with us….
