even though i’ve been to so many places in the world, one country stands out. SA or south africa. south africa was a really memorable trip for me. from a 5mm wetsuit with gloves and booties surfing in ice cold cape town, to surfing victoria bay with a chu chu train passing by, to seal point where my leash broke and i had to swim in shark infested water, to seal beach where we where pulling into barrels with dolphins, to eating 1 kilo steaks and all the raw oysters and abalone, to sipping $2/bottles of wine, to jeffery’s bay surfing 200 meter rights, to the safari park where i almost got attacked by angry elephants. i remember that trip like it happened yesterday. so when people ask me “where should i go on my next surf trip?” i tell them, SA. want a little of everything? south africa is the place to go. the ticket from hawaii cost $2,500 but once you get there 42 hours later, everything is cheap. jet lag at it’s finest, but once you take off on your first 6′ perfect jeffery’s bay right and ride it forever, you can look up to the sky and say “thank you god for getting me to this magical place on earth.” i usually don’t like to go to places more than once, but if i get another chance to go to south africa, count me in!
