people think we are super crazy. we travel to exotic destinations not to sightsee, not to suntan on the beach, and not to fool around. we come here to do an extreme sport called “Blue Water Spearfishing.” uncertainty, high risks, great whites, and extremely dangerous. we drive out 30 miles to sea off the coast of mexico and jump in the deep blue water. i actually think we’re a little crazy too.
started off early at sunrise. loaded up the truck, then loaded up the boat, and then headed out for the 2 hour speed drive to our dive spot.
we have a captain and a guide. Pepe is such a cool mexican. super helpful, super knowledgeable, and super friendly.
before the fun of diving begins, there are a few things we have to do. one is to catch bait. so the boys throw the pole out to catch bonito or katsuo. then when we have a few, we put on our wetsuits and get busy.
i came here for one thing and one thing only. not the tequila, not the tacos, and not the pretty latina women. i came here to spear a big tuna! and guess what? that dream came true! finally!!! thank you Kyle for taking this photo! and thank you Kyle and Jonathan for putting in the backup shots.
couldn’t have been a better ending to an awesome day. was so stoked to make it back to the coast of mexico alive.
then a beer, sashimi, friends, dinner, tequila, and now i’m going to have a great night sleep.
to tell you the truth, after my trip to panama last year trying to spear a tuna, i almost gave up. 95% of me was telling myself that it’s enough and just to give up. but the remainder 5% brought me here to mexico. i was dreaming tuna and not i don’t have to dream no more. we still have 2 more dive days and if i spear another tuna, it’s just a bonus. the pressure is off and after this trip, i’m done with ahi fever. done forever!
DREAMS COME TRUE…
