had a great breakfast at our luxury hotel in the philippines. bummer it was only for one night. haha.
the bus schedule in the philippines is worst than hawaii. the website is wrong, the people you ask are wrong, and nothing is right. the only guaranteed way is to go to the bus station in person and check for yourself. it’s been like that ever since i started going there 14 years ago. and that’s the part i love about that country. if you can get there, you will score. and if you can’t get there, that is normal. haha.
i’ve been traveling for so long that i know a good man from a bad man. and i know a good surfer from a bad surfer. yes, i could have walked up to anyone to ask to help us get to the best spot around. but i didn’t, until i found Gil. we talked for 5 minutes and i knew he was our guy. not only did he take us around showing us things no foreigner has seen before, but he even went back to his house and let me borrow his own personal surfboard. if it wasn’t for Gil, we’d still have virgin surfers eyes.
and he showed us the best spot around. secret from the world, but not secret to us. i’m looking forward to climbing up that tree again and see the waves 10′ and barreling!
through texts, a friend of a friend introduced me to this wonderful surf couple Jessel and Camile. went to go visit them they were super friendly and kind. can’t wait to go back and hang out at their super spiritual place. surf, yoga, and healthy food. that’s my kind of lifestyle!
we hired a private driver on the way because we couldn’t figure out the bus schedule. cost us $160. on the way back, we figured out the bus and it only cost us $8. sometimes it’s cheap, and sometimes it’s expensive. but the experience you get out of everything is priceless.
even Gil asked me at dinner “hey kirby, are you filipino?” haha. i thought he was joking but he was serious. after i told him “no,” he said “not even 50%?” haha. anyway, this is our new friend Gil. a cool surfer that i will probably be friends with for the next 30 years. Mabuhai!
