Kiki's Bar and Grill: Honolulu, Hawaii

372

good evening. gosh, what another picture perfect day here in hawaii. had a photo shoot this morning in waikiki. i caught the bus down there… not…

if there is anywhere in the world with bluer skies then this, please let me know because i want to go there. you can walk down the street here in hawaii and accidently press the camera shutter. that photo could end up being a keeper. just like this one.. hawaii no ka oi….

how’s this. why would you want to be anywhere else? why? this guy had the right idea. i was surfing the wave when i took this photo. a guy was paddling over it while another guy was snorkeling. just another day in the ocean….
**been going to kiki’s after hours ever since it opened. it’s a place to hang out with locals, shoot pool, play darts, drink cheap jacksan, and talk to beautiful waitresses. haha…

meet some of the ohana…. thanks guys for the drinks that night. it was pretty funny because we were talking about longboarding, bodyboarding, and surfing because each guy was either one or the other. those guys were asking me which one was better. i told them whatever makes you feel good. just riding a wave period gives you the feeling. anyway, the guy wearing the gray quiksilver t-shirts name is shane hamamoto. i met shane 5 years ago. how? i caught a big fish and wanted to get it printed, gyotaku style. so my dive friend randy gave me shane’s number and that was it. done deal….

shane makes awesome gyotaku prints and this one is hanging on my wall right above my computer. when ever i look at it, i can clearly remember this big boy sticking his head out from under the ledge. after i shot him in the head, this huge eel came out and attacked it. look at the teeth marks under his belly. this was one of my first big ulua’s so i didn’t want to lose it. i fought with the eel and won, which was pretty stupid. but if i gave my fish up to the eel, this print wouldn’t be here. and i wouldn’t have met shane. so i guess that was a smart thing to do after all…. like they say, “everything happens for a reason”….. thanks shane….
