took the kids out yesterday for some fun in the ocean.
of course got out the tube out and asked them before they rode it: “do you want medium level, or extreme level?” i can do both but love going for the extreme! watching the kids flying around in the back yelling and screaming. all 7 of them 15 year olds having way more fun than i did when i was their age.
then anchored and they went snorkeling. the ocean was so beautiful! had a great time watching the local kids be local kids.
there is big news about surfers complaining about excess surfboard fees on hawaiian airlines. Bob Hurley of “Hurley” and Kelly Slater 11x World Champion started the social media bashing of Hawaiian Airlines. Hawaiian Air has a 2 surfboard limit per passenger. in simple terms, that means each passenger is allowed only 2 surfboard. well, Bob Hurley put 3 in a bag and tried to check it in. after getting caught with 3 in his bag and into an argument with the staff, the girl finally gave in and said “ok, i’ll make an exception for you.” then Bob went on social media telling his story and bashing Hawaiian Air, including the poor girl.
ok, i’ve been traveling for 30 years lugging my boards around. each airlines has rules and surfers know it very well. some try to break the rules and some get caught. here is my opinion: airlines companies have rules for a reason. if you don’t like it, don’t fly it. trying to sneak around and lying about how many boards are in your bag is your risk. if you get caught, you have to face the penalties. yes, every surfer does it, including me. but when you get caught, you should just obey or fly some other airlines. and Bob and Kelly being two multi-million dollar men, how can you complain about something this small? i don’t get it???
and by the way, doesn’t Hawaiian Airlines co-sponsor the biggest event in surfing? the Triple Crown of Surfing in Hawaii? and surf company CEO’s and famous surfers are bashing them? i just don’t get it. maybe this is one of the reasons corporate sponsors are slowly shying away from supporting surfers and surfing events.
want to thank Ichimura-san for the snacks! ate it all already. haha.
another thing trending on social media now is about this japanese woman by the name of Risa Hirako. the world can’t believe she’s 45 years old. neither can i.
